Drawing Extinction
Engaging people to beautifully draw endangered species, we then erased their artwork by reversing every brushstroke until nothing remained. This heightened the message that the corresponding animals were threatened with extinction.
With the goal to enhance awareness of conservation challenges and help young people feel more personally invested and connected with the plight of endangered species, we created a specialized art-creation experience where users easily create compelling artwork. Eventually, though, the artwork undraws itself, disappearing along the same paths that created it.
The disappearance of the artwork underscores the disappearance of the animals themselves. The artists were sad and dismayed to see their work vanish and were more receptive and sensitive to the need for action.
